Radiesse™ is a synthetic injectable filler that reduces creases, moderate to deep wrinkles, and scars by augmenting the body’s natural collagen supply. Losses in facial or hand volume that occur with aging can also be corrected with Radiesse™.
Composed of microspheres of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) in a biocompatible gel, Radiesse is made from the same minerals found in our bones, so it carries little risk of allergic reaction. Radiesse can be used on many areas of the body, including the nasolabial folds, perioral area, cheeks, chin, jawline, and hands.
Treatments are minimally invasive and require only local anesthetic. Side effects such as swelling or bruising are minimal and should fade within a few days. Results are visible immediately after the injection and the results are long lasting, but not permanent. What makes Radiesse™ unique among fillers is that over time the carrier gel is absorbed by fibroblasts. Fibroblasts stimulate the formation of collagen, a process called neocollagenesis, which results in the growth of your own collagen and extended correction times of up to 18 months.
The CaHA microspheres naturally degrade to calcium and phosphate ions, which are metabolized by the body’s normal processes. Even though these CaHA microspheres are similar to minerals found in our bones, the results are soft and natural looking, just like your normal skin.
